Here’s my first Classics Spin list. On Monday Aug 11, The Classics Club will post a number between 1-20. That will be the book that I must read by October 6th.
My list includes old and new classics (see The Classics Club for ideas on what they consider “classics”). A few I’m eager to read, a few would be rereads, and a couple I feel I ought to read … in absolutely no particular order.

2.) Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson
3.) Testament of Youth, by Vera Brittain
4.) Greenvoe, by George Mackay Brown
5.) One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Márquez
6.) Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery
7.) Suite Française, by Irene Nemirovsky
8.) Barchester Towers, by Anthony Trollope
9.) Blandings Castle, by P.G. Wodehouse
10.) Love and Friendship, by Jane Austen
11.) The Mysteries of Udolpho, by Ann Radcliffe
12.) North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell
13.) Frenchman’s Creek, by Daphne du Maurier
14.) The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien
15.) Under the Greenwood Tree, by Thomas Hardy
16.) Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dosteovsky
17.) The Murder at the Vicarage, by Agatha Christie
18.) In Search of a Character, by Graham Greene
19.) Anil’s Ghost, by Michael Ondaatje
20.) Adam Bede, by George Eliot
If you were choosing for yourself, which one would you start with? I’m rereading Anne of Green Gables right now, and I’d be tempted to reread The Small House at Allington. (But then I’d probably have to reread all the Barchester novels, which I love. One year, I read them all in a row, with nothing else in between.) I’d like to read Testament of Youth sometime.

Golly, tough question. It’s been ages since I read Anne of Green Gables series, so I am eager to do that. I’ve also been wanting to do a Chronicles of Barsetshire run through (v impressive you!) tho those feels like winter books). I’m always up for Wodehouse in the summer and I’ve never read the first Mrs Marple. I’ve had Crime and Punishment on my shelf for years but never picked it up. Testament of Youth is one of my all-time favorite books. But it can be sad as it’s about WWI after all. I think you’d like it b/c Vera Brittian is a fascinating woman, very forethinking. Decisions, decisions … this is why I’m happy to let the spin decide!

Yes – winter books, definitely. I started in January that year, and was soon obsessed with Trollope’s world. Have fun with Miss Marple!

What a great list! I have a Trollope on mine, but it’s Doctor Thorne. I’m reading The Barsetshire Chronicles in order and this is the next book.
I am dying to read Testament of Youth but it’s not on my list, so it will have to wait.
I hope you have a great first spin! Best of luck!

Oh what fun! You got an Agatha Christie. Is it a Poirot or Miss Marple?

It’s the first Miss Marple! I dodged a bullet b/c I originally had Crime & Punishment at 17, but I shuffled the titles b/c I didn’t think it was random enough. I did score a nice, fun summer read. I saw you got Silent Spring … I really liked that book. Thought provoking!

I love The Murder at the Vicarage! I’m rereading all the Agatha Christie’s and am looking forward to getting to this one though my absolute favorite Marple is Sleeping Murder. I look forward to seeing what you think of it. You have some great books on your list! I see several by favorite authors that I’m unfamiliar with.
